This Wednesday, September 25th, the Research Group “Marias, Clarices, Violence, and Human Rights” hosted a screening of the documentary “Palavra Presa.” The group is led by Professor Dr. Raquel Fabiana Lopes Sparemberger, who also coordinated the event and moderated a discussion after the film. Those who attended earned 3 hours of complementary activity in the Research modality.
“Palavra Presa” is a documentary about how reading and writing have become a powerful form of expression and freedom for those behind bars. It showcases the journey of criminal judge João Marcos Buch, who gives voice to the written words of inmates. By breaking traditional norms of the prison system, he challenges the established paradigm and reveals a failed prison system, where overcrowded prisons become a threat to society.
